Trump teases 'historic' deal with Harvard could be announced as early as next week
The social media post occurred around the same time that a federal judge blocked the administration from interfering in Harvard's ability to enroll international students.
President Donald Trump on Friday afternoon signaled that his administration could reach a "historic" deal with Harvard University in the near future, as it squabbles with the school over international students and antisemitism.
The social media post occurred around the same time that a federal judge blocked the administration from interfering in Harvard's ability to enroll international students.
The Department of Homeland Security revoked Harvard's Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certification last month, after the Ivy League failed to provide information to the federal government about its international students and students who engaged in multiple school protests last year.
Trump posted on Truth Social that his administration has been working closely with the Ivy League school to reach an agreement, and praised the school for "acting appropriately" during the negotiations.
"Many people have been asking what is going on with Harvard University and their large-scale improprieties that we have been addressing, looking for a solution," the president wrote. "We have been working closely with Harvard, and it is very possible that a Deal will be announced over the next week or so.
"They have acted extremely appropriately during these negotiations, and appear to be committed to doing what is right," he continued. "If a Settlement is made on the basis that is currently being discussed, it will be 'mindbogglingly' HISTORIC, and very good for our Country. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
Harvard has not commented on the ruling or the negotiations so far.
