Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday announced that he would be joining his wife, second lady Usha Vance, on an upcoming trip to Greenland later this week, as President Donald Trump urges the country to join the United States.
The White House announced the second lady's trip last week, which will be part of a larger delegation that includes White House National Security Adviser Michael Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright.
The vice president said on X that he would visit some Space Force "guardians" that are stationed in Greenland, and check out the security of the nation, which Trump hopes to one day procure for the U.S.
"You know there was so much excitement around Usha's visit to Greenland this Friday that I decided I didn’t want her to have all that fun by herself, and so I’m gonna join her," JD Vance said. "I’m gonna visit some of our guardians in the Space Force on the Northwest coast of Greenland, and also just check out what’s going on with the security there."
The former senator turned vice president said that the U.S. wanted to "reinvigorate the security" of the people in Greenland, because a lot of other countries have threatened the European country. Greenland is currently owned by Denmark but operates as a self-governing territory within Denmark.
