White House backs handwriting analysis for alleged Trump birthday letter to Epstein
Trump's relationship with Epstein has come under renewed scrutiny amid intense backlash over his Department of Justice's handling of the case.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday insisted that President Donald Trump did not sign a birthday letter to Jeffrey Epstein that appears to bear his signature and supported a handwriting analysis to confirm it.
The House Oversight Committee this week obtained a sexually explicit birthday card to Epstein as part of its probe into his sex trafficking operation. That letter appeared to bear Trump's signature.
“The president did not write this letter. He did not sign this letter,” Leavitt said.
Trump's relationship with Epstein has come under renewed scrutiny amid intense backlash over his Department of Justice's handling of the case. He and many senior officials promised during the campaign that they would release the so-called "client list" and other documents related to the ring.
Attorney General Pam Bondi has received the lion's share of the scrutiny after she promised to release the client list, claiming it was "on her desk," only to distribute binders of largely public information to a group of influencers in a botched PR stunt.
The White House has since insisted that Bondi was merely referring to the volume of documents related to the case and that there exists no master list of clients.
