The White House is expected to release a sparse outline of President Donald Trump's budget requests for the 2026 fiscal year on Friday and a more detailed proposal will be sent to Congress later this month, multiple news outlets have reported.

Republican lawmakers have reportedly grown impatient as they wait for the budget request, according to Politico, because Congress will need to pass 12 funding bills by the start of the next fiscal year, which begins in October.

House Appropriations Chair Tom Cole said that he wants to pass all 12 funding bills out of his committee by the August recess. Failure to approve a 2026 federal budget by the end of September will result in a government shutdown, unless a continuing resolution is passed to give lawmakers more time.

“You’re looking at a government shutdown if we can’t move these bills,” Cole told reporters Thursday. “They’re trying to get it done. I get it. I understand it takes time. But so does crafting 12 bills and getting them out of committee … and we’re running out of time.”

It was not immediately clear if the proposal will include the $9.3 billion rescissions package that Congress has already passed.
