White House launches its official TikTok account
Intelligence assessments have said the owners of TikTok are beholden to the Communist-run Chinese government and that the social media platform – which like others sites collects user data – is a national security threat.
The White House has launched its official TikTok account – after President Trump during his failed 2020 reelection bid tried to ban the China-based social media platform in the U.S., then touted it helped him win support among young voters in his successful 2024 reelection bid.
“The Trump administration is committed to communicating the historic successes President Trump has delivered to the American people with as many audiences and platforms as possible,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday as the account went live, the Daily Wire reported.
“President Trump’s message dominated TikTok during his presidential campaign, and we’re excited to build upon those successes and communicate in a way no other administration has before."
The account is @whitehouse, and began operations on Tuesday evening, aiming to communicate the president’s policies, according to a White House official.
Intelligence assessments have said the owners of TikTok are beholden to the Communist-run Chinese government and that the social media platform – which like others sites collects user data – could be used to influence Americans.
