Fauci to testify in front of Senate Homeland Security panel next week

Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rand Paul confirmed Thursday that former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci is set to testify in front of his panel next week.

Paul subpoenaed the former Biden administration official last month after Fauci declined to do so voluntarily. The hearing is expected to take place next Wednesday, July 29. 

The panel is expected to question Fauci about whether he lied to Congress during the pandemic about whether his office had funded gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China.

"The worst public health decision in history, yet Democrats still praise Dr. Anthony Fauci," Paul said on X. "At next week’s hearing, I will make sure Fauci answers for his dangerous decisions and the consequences they had for millions."

The testimony also comes after former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard last month declassified a several-hundred-page agency report on Fauci related to when he was NIAID director, the COVID-19 pandemic and the continuing, unresolved issue of the origin of the deadly virus. 

Despite evidence of a potential lab leak sickening workers at the Wuhan lab, Fauci has continued to double down on his claim that the virus emerged naturally from a wet-market in the same area as the lab, not a leak from the lab itself.
