Former Major League Baseball player Mark Teixeira is now headed to Capitol Hill in January after he won a House race in Texas on Tuesday night.

Teixeira, who is a Republican and will represent the state's 21st congressional district, is a three-time MLB all-star who played for the Texas Rangers and New York Yankees. He is replacing Texas GOP Rep. Chip Roy in the House.

"Together, we can build a better future for our families, our neighbors, and every community across Texas 21," Teixeira said in a statement posted on X. "I'm excited to get to work. I will be praying for all of you and for the future of this great nation. God bless Texas, and God bless America."

The Republican's victory comes after President Donald Trump endorsed him earlier this year. The district is typically considered a safe conservative district and Teixeira defeated Democrat Kristin Hook in a 54% to 45% split.
