Man wounded during 2024 Trump rally shooting in Butler has died, House Republicans confirm

House Republican leadership confirmed Thursday that Jim Copenhaver, who was injured during the 2024 shooting at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, has died two years after the event.

Copenhaver was one of two people gravely injured at the shooting, where volunteer firefighter Corey Comperatore was killed. President Donald Trump was also injured in the shooting after a bullet grazed his ear. David Dutch was the other person seriously injured.

"We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jim Copenhaver, who was gravely wounded in the horrific shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania," House Republicans posted on X. "Jim endured unimaginable hardship with strength and perseverance.

"We join his family and loved ones in mourning his loss and praying for them during this difficult time," the post continued. "May he rest in peace."

Copenhaver, who was 76-years-old at the time of his death, was shot in the triceps. Another bullet was lodged in his body after it took chunks of his colon, leaving him with nerve damage, according to CBS News. 

He was discharged from the hospital one week after the shooting.
