Judge finds Trump admin illegally fired James Comey's daughter
The administration will likely appeal the decision.
A federal judge on Monday found that the Trump administration illegally fired Maurene Comey, the daughter of former FBI Director James Comey.
Comey served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the South District of New York, but was fired in 2025. She subsequently sued for reinstatement.
While the judge acknowledged that the attorney general may remove an assistant attorney general, she asserted that the attorney general "limited by law, namely the [Civil Service Reform Act] CSRA, to do so only in a particular manner and only for certain reasons. And Comey’s removal indisputably violated the CSRA," wrote U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman.
The administration will likely appeal the decision.
