Democrats win Arizona House, Senate and governor for first time in 60 years
The victories came amid significant Democratic gains nationwide in the election on Tuesday, including the party’s takeover of both chambers of Congress
Democrats in Arizona secured control of both chambers of the state Legislature while retaining the governor’s office, giving the party its first governing trifecta in the state since 1966.
The victories came amid significant Democratic gains nationwide in the election on Tuesday, including the party’s takeover of both chambers of Congress.
During her first term, Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs vetoed more than 540 bills passed by the Republican-controlled Legislature, blocking measures involving taxes, immigration and voting laws, according to the Associated Press.
Hobbs has said she wants to prioritize addressing Arizona’s water challenges and affordability concerns while cracking down on fraud and abuse in the state’s school voucher program.
