President Donald Trump said Monday night that he will stop using federal funding to pay for patriotic advertisements that his administration has been putting out, and will instead fund them through his Super Political Action Committee MAGA Inc.

Trump made the announcement on Truth Social after heavy criticism from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, where some questioned the legality of using taxpayer dollars to promote his agenda ahead of a critical midterm election.

The president defended his use of taxpayer money to fund the videos, but said he would go ahead and use the private money instead to appease the left.

"The Radical Left is upset with the fact that I am taking Ads, which I consider to be a positive promotion for our Great U.S.A., and paying for them with U.S.A. money," Trump wrote. "This is a rather standard thing to do but, rather than doing that, although nothing will make them happy, I have decided to do the Patriotic Ads, among others, and pay for them myself, and with money I raised for MAGA, Inc."

The president most recently shared a video over the weekend that reiterated his plan to give every adult U.S. citizen $5,000 if the GOP wins the midterm elections next month. He also called on Republican voters to use every available tool to cast their ballots.
