Michigan State Police report six individuals dead in multi-scene shootings, including suspect

The Michigan State Police confirmed Friday that it is investigating a shooting spree in Missaukee County, where six people were killed across three different locations, including the suspected gunman.

The names and ages of the five victims have not yet been released, but the state police identified the suspect as 39-year-old Chad Hickman. State police found Hickman's body in the woods, which was the third location, along with a victim.

“This situation is heartbreaking for the community and challenging for the investigators involved,” Michigan State Police Lt. Ashley Miller said in a statement. “We remain committed to conducting a thorough investigation and will provide updates as new information becomes available.”

Investigators do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public. 

The state police said troopers were dispatched to a home in Lake Township for a report of a person shot at approximately 11:40 a.m. local time. Upon arrival, they discovered three deceased victims and one person in critical condition.

Investigators reported that Hickman fled the scene before they arrived, which initiated a large-scale police response and search with support from the MSP Emergency Support Team and Aviation and Canine units. 

A fourth victim was later found at a second, separate home in Missaukee County, and then the fifth victim and Hickman were discovered in a wooded area after spotting Hickman's vehicle.

MSP is asking the public to stay away from the area while the investigation continues.
