Shooting in downtown Minneapolis leaves two dead, multiple wounded, including three police officers

Minnesota officials confirmed a shooting Wednesday afternoon in downtown Minneapolis, which has left multiple people dead and others injured, including three Minneapolis police officers.

The Hennepin County Medical Center said it has received seven patients from the mass casualty event, including one person who is deceased and one person died on scene.

Minneapolis Police Sgt. Garrett Parten said three people are dead, including the suspected shooter, and four others were hospitalized. It was not clear how the shooter died, according to NBC News.

“This afternoon, a tragic scene has unfolded that has impacted numerous lives,” Parten said.

Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz said his public safety team is responding to the shooting and the Minneapolis Police Department warned the public to stay away from the area.

"State officials are on the ground to support local law enforcement and we will share more information as it becomes available," Walz said on X. Grateful to law enforcement actively working to ensure the safety of our neighbors in Downtown Minneapolis this afternoon. Minnesota is praying for our first responders."
