Kid Rock says supporting Trump has cost him corporate deals, TV appearances but does not regret it
The comment comes just days after the musician released his latest album "Halfway 2 Jesus," which he has described as a blend of Christian themes with high-energy rock.
Musician Kid Rock said Wednesday that his relationship and support of President Donald Trump has strained friendships, cost him corporate deals and late-night talk show appearances, but he does not appear to regret it.
The comment comes just days after the musician released his latest album "Halfway 2 Jesus," which he has described as a blend of Christian themes with high-energy rock.
Kid Rock told Fox News that while the relationship with Trump has cost him things, it has also rewarded him the freedom to speak his mind and put out the kind of message he wants to.
"My relationship with Trump, yeah, that canceled all the, uh, any corporate deals coming my way," the rocker admitted. "I don't really get invited to be part of, you know, things like the NFL or things like that … all the shows that I was so friendly with over the years, from all the late-night talk shows to my friend Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon, I don't really get invited on there anymore.
"But who's to say that won't change … and I honestly, I don't care," he continued. "I put my country before pretty much everything except my family and God. So, yeah. There have been things like that, but that's no sweat off my back."
The musician said that although he used to be concerned about the professional ramifications of being vocal about politics, the freedom he now feels to do so is rewarding enough.
"Years ago, when I went on this path to be more vocal and outspoken, I knew that stuff was going to go away. But man, let me tell you what freedom feels like," he said. "To be able to speak your mind anywhere, anytime and really exercise … the freedom of speech that so many brave souls died for, to be able to express that, when I want and how I want and not have to worry about anything in between ... it's just the biggest, most awesome feeling of freedom that one could ever imagine."
Kid Rock famously headlined the Turning Point USA Super Bowl "All-American Halftime Show" this year.
