President Donald Trump encouraged a crowd in Montana on Wednesday night to vote Republican in next month's midterms, jokingly claiming that "wild animals" could eat them if Democrats return to power and they lose their gun rights.

The comment occurred during a rally in Kalispell, Montana, where the president is hoping to boost Aaron Flint, a former aide to retiring Republican Rep. Ryan Zinke, who is running for the state's first Congressional district.

Trump warned Democrats would take the Second Amendment under siege if elected and that they would pack the Supreme Court with "radical Marxists, [who would] take away your guns."

"How would you like to live up here without guns?" Trump asked. "You know who would love that to happen? Some of the wild animals you have up here that like eating you."

The president said that Republicans would protect the Second Amendment if they remain in power after the midterms.

"Nobody has fought for the Second Amendment like me," he added.
