Schumer says he'll seek 6th straight term as Senate Democratic leader regardless of midterm results

New York Sen. Chuck Schumer says he'll seek another term as Senate Democratic leader regardless of whether his party or Republican control of the upper chamber after the Nov. 3 elections.

“I am running for reelection for leader. Period,” Schumer told Politico Wednesday after senators cast final votes and left Washington until after the midterms.

The 75-year-old senator also told Punchbowl News that he will seek a sixth straight term.

Yes," he said. "And I’m looking forward to getting things done for the American people.” However, he declined to say whether he plans on seeking 2028 reelection.

Though Schumer also told reporters that Democrats are leaving town with “wind in their sails,” regarding midterm voting momentum, he acknowledged the GOP has an “almost obscene” funding advantage.
