Trump announces 30-day campaign tour ahead of midterms

The midterms are expected to be competitive and the in-power party typically loses seats in the midterms.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced that he planned to hit the campaign trail in the 30 days ahead of the midterm elections.

"I'm gonna be campaigning for numerous people, both Congress -- a few governors, I love the governors -- but we're interested in the Senate and we're interest in the House," he said.

"I will be going to Alaska," he also said, indicating he would support Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, in his contentious reelection bid. That race has been complicated by the inclusion of another "Dan Sullivan" on the ballot, which Republicans have accused of deliberately attempting to mislead voters.

The midterms are expected to be competitive and the in-power party typically loses seats in the midterms. But Republicans are narrowly favored to hold the Senate and redistricting has netted Republicans several likely seats in the House.
