U.S. Mint debuts $1 Trump coin

While former U.S. presidents have appeared on coins before, Trump is the first to do so while in office. The Mint has previously issued coins of all deceased former presidents, save for Jimmy Carter.

The U.S. Mint on Wednesday released a $1 coin bearing the image of President Donald Trump.

The special release of 250,000 coins was meant to mark the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding, The Hill reported. The coin's design was controversial due to its inclusion of Trump, a still-living person, on its side.

While former U.S. presidents have appeared on coins before, Trump is the first to do so while in office. The Mint has previously issued coins of all deceased former presidents, save for Jimmy Carter.

Its release follows Trump's staging of the "Great American State Fair" on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., his hosting of a UFC fight on the White House lawn, and his orchestration of a race through the streets of the nation's capital.
