Warren backs El-Sayed in contentious MI Senate primary

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., threw her weight behind Abdul El-Sayed in the Michigan Democratic Senate primary as the contest enters its home stretch.

El-Sayed is in a dead heat with Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich., for the party nod and the right to challenge former Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., in the general election. The contest has become something of a proxy for the establishment fighting off far-left, socialist-leaning candidates.

Warren, for her part, is one of the most left-leaning lawmakers in the country. She issued her endorsement in an X post, calling him "the fighter Michigan needs in the Senate."

She also highlighted his status as a "card-carrying union member" and a champion of removing money from politics.
