In a meeting with President Donald Trump's adviser Jared Kushner on Sunday in Egypt, Hamas leaders said they still intend to demilitarize Gaza.

The rare direct meeting afforded Kushner an opportunity to press Hamas for specifics on a disarmament plan, warning that Israel doesn't trust Hamas to go through with the promise, Axios reported, citing unnamed sources.

The White House and Trump's Board of Peace are pressuring Hamas and Israel to proceed with this next step in the U.S. 20-point peace plan, which also requires Israel and Hamas to complete a complicated series of reciprocal and independently verified steps over approximately seven to eight months.

Kusher is expected to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday to discuss these "corresponding steps" Israel must take to complete its part of the plan.
