Jeffries backs impeachment of Hegseth, predicts strong Democratic support

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said Sunday he strongly supports impeaching Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, backing an effort led by Republican Rep. Thomas Massie that could force a House vote as soon as this week.

“I’m a hard yes on the Hegseth resolution,” Jeffries told ABC News’ Jonathan Karl on “This Week,” accusing Hegseth of abusing his authority and orchestrating what he called a costly and reckless war with Iran.

“Pete Hegseth has got to go,” Jeffries said.

Jeffries predicted the impeachment measure would receive substantial backing from Democrats, although he said the party would discuss the proposal when lawmakers return to Washington.
