Trump encourages Fetterman to become Republican

President Donald Trump is encouraging Democratic Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., to become a Republican ahead of the midterm elections where control of Congress is at stake.

“I’d love to see him as a Republican,” Trump said at Joint Base Andrews on Saturday after attending a rally in Tennessee. “He does better as a Republican than he does as a Democrat.”

Polling has shown he's more popular in Pennsylvania among Republicans than Democrats.

Fetterman has said he doesn't plan to change parties.

"I’m not going to be a Republican. Why can’t you guys just wait till the midterms? And if I turn a Republican, then I’ll be a liar,” he said in September. “My name is not on the ballot. Chill.”
