Trump's 'triumphal arch' needs red, blinking lights on it to avoid aviation hazard, FAA recommends

There are further steps in the FAA process the project will need to go through, but the FAA's feasibility study suggests that the monument will likely clear the FAA approval process.

The Federal Aviation Administration recommends that the Trump administration's proposed 256-foot-tall arch have red, blinking obstruction lights on top.

With the lights added to the design, the FAA wrote in a feasibility study released on Friday, the monument won't pose a risk to aircraft landing at Ronald Reagan National Airport, which is less than a mile from the proposed site. The lights would be similar to those on the Washington Monument, the New York Times reported

Before the project can move forward, the FAA will need to complete a formal evaluation, and it will need to be approved by a regional planning commission. The feasibility study, however, suggests that the monument will likely clear the FAA approval process.

The arch is one of a few beautification projects the Trump administration has undertaken in Washington, D.C., including the resurfacing of the reflecting pool and a new White House ballroom.
