Civilian detained after allegedly breaching the perimeter of MacDill Air Force Base in Florida

A civilian was detained Saturday after allegedly breaching the perimeter of MacDill Air Force Base in Florida and becoming involved in a violent confrontation with security personnel, officials said.

The incident occurred at about 1 p.m. at the Tampa-area installation, according to the 6th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs Office.

The civilian “violently engaged” security personnel after entering the base, reports from FOX 13 and WTSP-TV said. One security officer and the civilian suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the confrontation.

The civilian was taken into custody following the incident.
