Trump 'couldn't care less' if Iran signs nuclear deal

President Donald Trump indicated this week that he no longer cared if Iran agreed to a deal to end the conflict, saying that he preferred the current military status quo.

"I’m not trying to force Iran to the bargaining table, as ABC Fake News reported. I couldn’t care less if they sign a worthless, to them, agreement," he posted on Truth Social. "I like our position now much better, with almost total control of the Hormuz Strait, and their economy totally collapsing. They are just playing out the inevitable. When are the Iranian people going to rise up and fight?"

Trump's comments represent an about-face from his long-stated goal of securing a nuclear agreement with the country. His queries on the lack of anti-regime uprisings, moreover, seem to signal that regime change has become a subject of renewed interest within the White House.

At the beginning of the conflict, Trump expressed hope that the Iranian people would overthrow the regime. He further explored the possibility of arming Kurdish groups to invade Iran from northern Iraq. 

But thus far, anti-regime demonstrations have been limited.
