Washington state authorities said Wednesday that four people were killed, including one Spokane County Sheriff's deputy, in a shooting that stemmed from a domestic violence call. Another deputy is on life support.

The Washington sheriff's office said deputies responded to a home Tuesday after a woman ran to a neighbor's house reporting that her brother had shot her, according to Fox News.

The responding deputies learned that the suspect had an active felony arrest warrant and had access to multiple guns, which meant additional victims could be inside the home, prompting a call to a SWAT team.

"SWAT team members and deputies approached the house, attempted to breach the door and were met with gunfire," Spokane County Sheriff John Nowels said during a news conference.

The deputies returned fire and pulled two wounded deputies to safety, who were later transported to a local hospital. The initial female victim was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One of the deputies later died.

"Although we know our deputies knew the risks, they bravely moved toward danger to protect others they did not know," the sheriff's office said in a statement. "They did this with honor and with an unwavering sense of duty to their oath to serve and protect the citizens of Spokane County; they heroically placed themselves in mortal danger."

Investigators found one person dead inside the house, while another body was found in the yard. The suspect was also found dead on the property. The reason for the shooting and the identities of the victim have not been released.

The sheriff's office also confirmed that the second deputy who was injured is still in critical condition and is not expected to survive. The second deputy is an organ donor and arrangements are being made.

"He will continue to serve others with the gift of life," the agency added.
