Cori Bush loses attempted political comeback to incumbent Wesley Bell in Missouri House primary

Former Democratic Missouri Rep. Cori Bush, a former "Squad" member, lost the Democratic primary for the state's 1st congressional district on Tuesday, ending her attempt at a political comeback.

Bush, who represented the district in the House from 2021 through 2025, lost to incumbent Democratic Rep. Wesley Bell, who also defeated her two years ago, according to the Associated Press. 

Bell was defeating Bush 76% to 19% as of publishing time.

The former lawmaker hoped she would gain traction this year after other Democratic Socialist candidates fared better than normal in recent elections. 

The movement picked up after New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani defeated traditional Democratic former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for the party's nomination for mayor last year, and then defeated him again in November after Cuomo ran as an independent.
