Kamala Harris urges Dems not to try impeaching Trump again if they win Congress in midterms
"I was in the Senate for the last go-around, and the votes aren’t there," Harris says, calling on Democrats to focus on accountability and ending the Iran War if they return to power in the next election.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris urged congressional Democrats this week not to try and impeach President Trump yet again in January if they win back control of both chambers in next month's midterm elections.
Several Democrats have toyed with the idea in recent weeks, though House Democratic leadership has been noncommittal on the prospect, with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries indicating no decision has been made.
House Republicans, including Speaker Mike Johnson, have warned that Democrats will try to impeach and remove Trump if they win control of both chambers in November.
Harris told MeidasTouch’s Aaron Parnas on Tuesday that she believes Democrats need to focus on accountability and ending the Iran War if they return to power in the next election, instead of focusing on a third Trump impeachment.
“I think that going in the direction of impeachment is not a good idea, just to be honest with you,” Harris said. “Just because we have limited resources, and I think the energy and the resources need to be put into accountability, need to be put into investigations.
“That’s where the time should be spent,” she continued. “Remember, I was in the Senate for the last go-around, and the votes aren’t there. So, that’s how I feel. But also, I think after the election, we all have to just also agree that our attitude has to be to get stuff done.”
The president was impeached by the House twice in his first term but was acquitted by the Senate.
