Republican Spencer Pratt fails to advance to November general election for LA mayor: AP

Progressive Los Angeles City Council member Nithya Raman secured the second slot Monday night for Los Angeles mayor, defeating Republican hopeful Spencer Pratt in his quest to challenge Mayor Karen Bass in November.

Raman advanced to the general election with 28.6% of the vote, according to the Associated Press, compared to Pratt's 25.8%, with 93% of the vote counted.

Bass won 34.3% of the vote and secured one of the general election slots last week but failed to secure the 50% necessary to automatically be reelected. 

Raman's victory comes after she trailed Pratt until Sunday, but ballots can be received in California up to one week after the primary if the ballot is postmarked by Election Day.
