CBS News announced Thursday that Tanya Simon will be the next executive producer of “60 Minutes.”

"Tanya Simon understands what makes '60 Minutes' tick, said Tom Cibrowski, president and executive editor of CBS News. "She is an innovative leader, an exceptional producer, and someone who knows how to inspire people."

Simon had been filling the interim role since April following the resignation of her predecessor, Bill Owens, who left the network unexpectedly citing a lack of independence.

The turnover follows backlash from a controversial “60 Minutes” interview in October 2023 with then- presidential candidate Kamala Harris. CBS was accused of deceptively editing the interview’s promotional clips in Harris’ favor. The former vice president's answers shown teasing the interview differed from the interview that aired.

Believing the edited interview was an attempt to interfere with the upcoming presidential election, then GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump sued CBS News later that month.

He settled a $16 million lawsuit over the matter earlier this month with the network’s parent company, Paramount Global.

Paramount Global is the midst of a $8 billion dollar merger with Skydance.

CBS also announced last week it is cancelling “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" next May stating the decision was “purely financial.”
