Second suspect in custody in shooting of off-duty Customs and Border Protection officer in NYC park
Two suspects are now in custody in relation with the shooting of an off-duty Customs and Border Protection agent in New York City
A second suspect in the shooting of an off-duty Customs and Border Protection agent in New York City this past weekend was taken into custody on Monday afternoon.
The officer was shot in the face on Saturday night during a “botched” robbery inside of Washington Heights Park. The officer is expected to survive and is still recovering in the hospital, reported ABC 7.
The suspects are Christhian Aybar-Berroa and Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, whom officials say are each undocumented immigrants.
The arrest of 21-year-old Nunez was announced previously. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced the arrest of the second suspect in a news conference on Monday.
The Department of Homeland Security released video footage of the incident, showing the suspects approaching the officer on a moped before shooting him in the face and arm.
ABC 7 also reported that the pair have remained in the United States despite having been ordered deported back to the Dominican Republic two years ago.
