Eight inmates escape from rural Louisiana jail, five still on the run

Louisiana authorities said Friday that eight inmates have escaped from a rural jail near the state's borders with Arkansas and Mississippi, with five still on the run as of Friday evening. 

The Louisiana State Police said the inmates escaped from a jail in East Carroll Parish and warned residents not to approach the remaining five male fugitives, who were being held on charges that include murder and aggravated assault with a firearm. 

The have been identified as 25-year-old Kevin Slaughter, 22-year-old Destin Brogan, 21-year-old Kelin Looney, 21-year-old Krisean Salinas and 19-year-old  Koplelon Vicknair.

"All fugitives are considered violent offenders," the state police said in a news release. "Do not approach under any circumstances. If you observe or have information regarding their whereabouts, contact law enforcement immediately."

Police said 31-year-old Savon Wheeler, 29-year-old Trenton Taplin and 27-year-old Hugo Molino are back in custody.

The incident comes after 10 inmates escaped from the Orleans Justice Center last year. Authorities said the inmates escaped from the jail through a loading dock door after removing a toilet and breaching a wall behind it. 

The last inmate was recaptured in October 2025, five months after fleeing.
