Mass stabbing outside D.C. on beltway, shots fired

A male subject has reportedly begun stabbing people with a knife on I-495, near Washington, D.C.

The Virginia Department of Transportation stated that the incident began as a vehicle collision but that a suspect began stabbing people who had stopped or were involved in the original crash.

Video footage showed wounded persons and emergency crews on the roadway.

Shots have been fired, though further details are unclear.
