Travis Kelce is named in a Missouri court as a victim of a $35 million Ponzi scheme

Travis Kelce, the star tight end of the Kansas City Chiefs, was named Tuesday as a victim in Ponzi scheme, by prosecutors in a Missouri court. 

The superstar Super Bowl champion, who recently married pop star Taylor Swift in a highly publicized wedding in Madison Square Garden in New York, was one of many to have allegedly been taken in by 38-year-old Siddharth Jawahar, described in a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Missouri, as an illegal immigrant who defrauded investors out of more than $35 million. 

Jawahar pleaded guilty to three counts of wire fraud in U.S. District Court in St. Louis in January and was sentenced to 11 years in prison and to pay restitution of more than $31 million. 

The extent of Kelce’s losses was not revealed. 

Jawahar ran a Texas-based investment company called Swiftarc Capital LLC. In 2015, he began investing client funds in a single investment, Philip Morris Pakistan (PMP). He took in approximately $35 million, but only invested about $10 million. He used the rest to repay older investors and live a luxurious lifestyle with private jets and luxury hotels.
