A jury has convicted a Wisconsin man of election fraud and identity theft after he requested the ballots of state Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Racine Democratic Mayor Cory Mason without their consent.

Harry Wait, 71, admitted Tuesday in court that in 2022 he ordered the ballots in an attempt to highlight alleged vulnerabilities in the state's election system and told the Associated Press that he was not surprised by the charges.

The jury found Wait guilty of two misdemeanor election fraud charges and one felony identity theft charge. He was acquitted of a second count of identity theft.

He now faces up to six years in prison for the felony charge and up to one year in jail for each misdemeanor conviction.

A former Milwaukee election official was found guilty of misconduct in office in 2024 after she obtained three military absentee ballots using fake names and Social Security numbers in 2022 and was sentenced to one year probation and ordered to pay a $3,000 fine.

No sentencing date in Wait's case has been set so far.
