The Cook County Sheriff's Office on Friday announced authorities have arrested nearly two dozen demonstrators outside a federal immigration facility near Chicago who were protesting the Trump administration's immigration crackdown.

Protests broke out in the Windy City in September after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers began carrying out deportation operations in Chicago. The arrests of protesters on Friday occurred outside an ICE facility in Broadview, Illinois.

The Cook County Sheriff's Office did not identify the 21 protesters or the charges they could face, but at least one faith leader was among those arrested, according to Reuters

Broadview Mayor Katrina Thompson said four local and state law enforcement officers were injured in the confrontation with protesters.

“The violence by out-of-town protesters that has led to two Village of Broadview police officers, one Illinois State police officer, and a Cook County Sheriff’s deputy being injured this morning, with the two Broadview officers and the sheriff’s deputy being transported to Loyola hospital, is unacceptable and outrageous,” Thompson said in a statement reported by NBC News. “I have repeatedly pleaded to protesters to raise their voices, not their fists. They have chosen their fists.”

The ICE facility in Broadview has been the site of multiple protests against the Trump administration's "Operation Midway Blitz."
