Dawson's Creek star James Van Der Beek dies at 48

Former teenage heartthrob James Van Der Beek, known for his starring role in the WB's "Dawson's Creek," died Wednesday at the age of 48.

The news, which was announced on his Instagram account, comes after Van Der Beek announced he had colorectal cancer in November 2024, although no official cause of death has been given.

"Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning," the social media post reads. "He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend."

He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Brook, and six children: Olivia, Joshua, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn and Jeremiah.
