Police dispatch audio released Thursday revealed that a conversation between Frisco police in Texas and Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland‘s girlfriend occurred just hours before the football player was found dead of an alleged self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities claimed Kneeland appeared to have taken his own life following a late-night vehicle pursuit by police on Wednesday night. He allegedly fled on foot after a crash and was found dead at about 1:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Kneeland's girlfriend, who was not identified, told police her boyfriend was armed, had a history of mental illness, and that “he will end it all,” according to the recording, obtained by the Dallas Morning News

The recording appeared to take place between the police chase and the apparent suicide and took place at approximately 11:30 p.m. local time. The car chase took place at approximately 10:33 p.m., after Texas Department of Public Safety troopers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation on the northbound lanes of the Dallas North Tollway near Keller Springs Blvd.

Details on the exact timing and events remain unclear, but Frisco police suspect Kneeland fled the scene on foot, then returned to his vehicle for the gun before leaving again, according to the dispatch audio.
