Prince Harry says US 'elected a king' in jab at Trump on Stephen Colbert's TV show
"I heard you elected a king," Prince Harry said to boos
Prince Harry said Wednesday night on the "Late Show with Stephen Colbert" that the U.S. "elected a king," an apparent at President Trump.
The prince, in what appeared to be a staged moment, interrupted Colbert’s monologue as the late-night host poked fun at the many “problematic” Christmas-themed movies centered around royalty, the according to The New York Post.
“I genuinely thought this was the audition for the Gingerbread Prince saves Christmas in Nebraska,” Harry said as he joined Colbert on stage.
Harry joked about wanting to go into acting because he knew how “obsessed” Americans were with Christmas movies and royalty.
Colbert dismissed the claim, to which Harry responded, “Really? I heard you elected a king.” The audience erupted with boos and groans at Harry's remark, which appeared to be scripted.
“That’s a fair point. No, he’s got a point,” Colbert told the audience.
“And after making such a big deal about my great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather George III,” Harry said about the king of Great Britain during the Revolutionary War.
"Well, he was kind of a jerk," Colbert responded.
"OK, let it go," Harry said.
Trump was again referenced, but not named, when Harry listed what he would do to land a role on Colbert’s fictional Hallmark Christmas movie.
“I’ll record a self-tape, I’ll fly myself to an audition, settle a baseless lawsuit with the White House. All the things you people on TV do,” Harry said, referencing CBS’s $16 million settlement with Trump.
“Hey, Harry, I didn’t do any of those things,” Colbert said.
“Maybe that’s why you’re canceled,” Harry replied.
Trump accused CBS and “60 Minutes” of deceptively editing an interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
CBS and its parent company, Paramount, settled with Trump in July. Colbert’s show was canceled weeks later, with the host claiming it was because of Trump, and not a “financial decision” by the company.
