San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan recovering after serious car crash

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan will be limited as the team opens training camp after suffering multiple injuries in a car accident earlier this month, the organization announced Saturday.

The crash occurred on July 14 near Shanahan's Northern California home. According to ESPN, the 46-year-old coach sustained a broken nose, three fractured ribs, a broken hand, a severe concussion and facial injuries that required more than 40 stitches. 

He was treated at a local hospital and later released to recover at home.

The 49ers said Shanahan's injuries were not life-threatening, but he will take on a reduced workload as camp gets underway. Assistant head coach Chris Foerster, along with the team's coordinators, will oversee many of the head coaching responsibilities until Shanahan is able to resume his normal duties.
