Serena Williams withdraws from Wimbledon doubles after knee injury
The injury happened on Tuesday during the singles competition, and she had originally planned to compete in the doubles with her sister Venus Williams.
Serena Williams announced on Saturday she's withdrawing from the Wimbledon doubles competition due to a knee injury she suffered earlier this week.
The injury happened on Tuesday during the singles competition, NBC News reported.
Her agent said at the time that she intended to team up with her sister Venus Williams in the doubles competition.
"I’m heartbroken to have to withdraw from doubles. Coming back to compete again has been a gift, and the opportunity to play alongside @venuswilliams once more meant the world to me. I did everything I could to be ready, but unfortunately my knee just isn’t ready to compete," Williams said in an Instagram post that included a video of her with her limping on a leg wrapped in a bandage.
