Trump suggests former MLB pitcher Roger Clemens sues league if he is not inducted into Hall of Fame
"Roger Clemens, who won 354 games, went through his own Witch Hunt," Trump wrote. "HE WAS ACQUITTED OF ALL CHARGES!!! If he doesn’t get into the Hall of Fame, he should sue the hell out of Major League Baseball."
President Donald Trump on Sunday suggested former Major League Baseball pitcher Roger Clemens should sue the league if he is not inducted into the sport's Hall of Fame soon, noting he has never convicted of any crimes.
Clemens, who played in the sport for over 20 years for teams that include the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, was accused of lying to Congress about using performance-enhancing drugs in 2008. But he was acquitted in 2012.
Trump claimed that it was the Obama administration that targeted Clemens and previously noted that the former MLB player never tested positive for drugs. The comment comes as the Hall of Fame board votes Sunday on whether to induct eight players, including Clemens.
"Roger Clemens, who won 354 games, went through his own Witch Hunt," Trump posted to Truth Social. "HE WAS ACQUITTED OF ALL CHARGES!!! If he doesn’t get into the Hall of Fame, he should sue the hell out of Major League Baseball."
The comment was not the first time that Trump has weighed in on the professional baseball Hall of Fame. Trump also pardoned the late-MLB star Pete Rose in March, who was banned for gambling, and his support prompted the sport to lift the ban on him being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Anyone chosen will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 26.
