Uber to cut 3,300 mainly management jobs in massive restructuring

Uber Technologies Inc. is cutting approximately 3,300 positions, which is about 10% of the company's global staffing.

The decision is part of a massive restructuring aimed at trimming management layers and reallocating spending into its ride-sharing, delivery and robotaxi businesses, Bloomberg reported. 

The cuts will reduce the number of managers in the company by 20%, with some being moved into the role of individual contributor, a company spokesperson told Bloomberg, and some of the cuts will apply to employees who aren't in management positions. 

The changes were announced in an email from Chief Executive Officer Dara Khosrowshahi, which said that the company's growth in recent years has created "more layers, more coordination, more fragmented ownership." 

While these worked well when the company was smaller, Khosrowshahi wrote, they've become burdensome at its current size.
