Google Maps recently changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, while Apple Maps as of Tuesday morning still had the original name.

President Trump signed an executive order Jan. 20, his first day in office, to restore names that "honor American greatness" by renaming the gulf and instructing the Interior Department to make the new name official.

People using Google Maps in Mexico would still see "Gulf of Mexico," and people from other countries would see both names, which would be written as "Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)."

"As we announced two weeks ago and consistent with our longstanding practices, we’ve begun rolling out changes to reflect this update," Google recently said.

Texas GOP Rep. Dan Crenshaw wrote Tuesday on X to Apple's CEO: "Hey @tim_cook, just noticed Apple Maps still calls it the Gulf of Mexico. Sent a report through the app, but thought you’d want to know.”

On Jan. 24, the Interior Department issued a statement confirming that "the Gulf of Mexico will now officially be known as the Gulf of America" and stating that the U.S. Board on Geographic Names was working "expeditiously" to update the names of these features in the U.S. Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) and that the changes are "effective immediately for federal use."

Trump officially declared Feb. 9 "Gulf of America Day."

“As my Administration restores American pride in the history of American greatness, it is fitting and appropriate for our great Nation to come together and commemorate this momentous occasion and the renaming of the Gulf of America," Trump wrote on X.
