Pope Francis predicts Trump's immigration policies will 'end badly'
The pope wrote in a letter that he understands that a nation has the right to defend itself, but Trump's approach to illegal immigration by conducting mass deportations isn't a good idea.
Pope Francis predicted Tuesday that President Donald Trump's immigration policies that include mass deportations will "end badly."
Francis, the leader of he Roman Catholic Church, made the statement in a open letter in which he said he understands that a nation has the right to defend itself, but that Trump trying to address the global problem of illegal immigration with conducting mass deportations isn't a good idea.
“That said, the act of deporting people who in many cases have left their own land for reasons of extreme poverty, insecurity, exploitation, persecution or serious deterioration of the environment, damages the dignity of many men and women, and of entire families, and places them in a state of particular vulnerability and defenselessness," Francis' letter reads, according to The Hill newspaper.
In his letter, Francis argued laws are enacted to protect the weak and marginalized, but "what is built on the basis of force, and not on the truth about the equal dignity of every human being, begins badly and will end badly."
