Protesters in Maine rallied outside of GOP Sen. Susan Collins' district office Monday, just hours after a person was fatally shot in an Immigration and Customs Enforcement-involved incident.

The shooting occurred in the city of Biddeford, Maine Speaker of the House Ryan Fecteau said on social media, which is a coastal city of about 23,000 people.

Protestors were seen banging on Collins' office’s glass doors and chanting “Vote her out!" according to the Boston Globe, while other protesters gathered near the scene of the shooting in Biddeford.

Collins has not commented on the protest so far, but urged federal law enforcement to investigate the incident.

"The shooting in Biddeford requires a full and impartial investigation of what happened," Collins posted on X. "It is my understanding that the Biddeford police have secured the site and that the FBI is investigating."

Collins later stated that the Homeland Security Inspector General's Boston field office had taken over leading the investigation.

Maine Democratic Sen. Angus King said he was told by Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin that the officer allegedly opened fire after the man tried to use his vehicle as a weapon against ICE agents.

The shooting and protests come as Collins seeks reelection in the state this November.
