New Mexico lawmakers plan to issue subpoenas to 14 different entities this week as part of an investigation into any crimes committed in the state by Jeffrey Epstein, the late financier and convicted sex offender with whom some of the world's most powerful men were associated.

Epstein owned an isolated 7,500-acre property with a private airstrip in the state known as Zorro Ranch that some allege he used to groom and sexually abuse underage girls and young women. The ranch has since been sold by the Epstein estate.

The lawmakers formed a committee for the investigation called the New Mexico Truth Commission, NBC reported

The targets of the committee's subpoenas include the FBI, the Department of Justice, and state and local law enforcement agencies that investigated Epstein in the past. The lawmakers said they also plan to send subpoenas to banks that did business with Epstein, including Deutsche Bank and JPMorgan Chase, as well as a Santa Fe-based nonprofit research institution that Epstein supported.

Any evidence the committee uncovers will be referred to the appropriate law enforcement agencies.
