Trump pushes Google, Microsoft to shift hiring stateside
The request comes after Trump spoke at an artificial intelligence summit in Washington D.C. on Wednesday night, where he slammed the tech community for having a "global mindset" instead of prioritizing Americans.
President Donald Trump on Thursday asked tech giants Google and Microsoft to stop hiring employees from India and other countries in favor of American workers, India Today reported.
The request follows Trump's appearance at an artificial intelligence summit in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday night, where he slammed the tech community for having a "global mindset" instead of prioritizing Americans.
"Many of our largest tech companies have reaped the blessings of American freedom while building their factories in China, hiring workers in India and stashing profits in Ireland," Trump said at the summit. "All the while dismissing and even censoring their fellow citizens' right here at home ... Those days are over. Winning the AI race will demand a new spirit of patriotism and national loyalty in Silicon Valley and long beyond Silicon Valley."
"We need US technology companies to be all in for America. We want you to put America first. You have to do that. That's all we ask," he added.
Trump also signed three executive orders related to artificial intelligence on Wednesday night, including one that supports the construction and expansion of new data centers and semiconductor fabrication plants within the United States.
