Kansas AG Kobach fights to restore informed consent abortion law in the Sunflower State

Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach is seeking to restore an anti-abortion law after a lower court blocked the measure.

The Kansas Court of Appeals heard oral arguments Wednesday for Hodes & Nauser v. Kobach, a case addressing an informed consent abortion law in the Sunflower State. 

Alliance Defending Freedom is serving as a co-counsel with Kobach in seeking to restore The Woman’s Right to Know Act.

The act was passed in 1997 and "ensures that women undergoing an abortion are fully informed of the significant risks involved and voluntarily consent to the procedure," according to ADF.

The law also requires that women receive information on available medical and legal assistance should they decide not to go through with the procedure. 

The Center for Reproductive Rights calls the act a "scheme" that "forces providers to relay inaccurate information to patients and makes it more difficult for Kansans to access abortion care."
