The Supreme Court on Monday let stand an appeals court decision barring emergency abortions in Texas that violate state law –  one of the country’s strictest abortion bans.

The justices announced the decision without detailing their reasoning, according to the Associated Press.

The Biden administration had asked the nine high court justices to throw out the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals order, arguing that hospitals have to perform abortions in emergency situations under federal law, the wire service also reports.
